New findings by Techunwrapped point to double resolution, 2048X1536 images found in the Twitter.framework, which is a new inclusion in the iOS SDK. These images are of course, twice the size of imagery found in the iPad 2, suggesting a next-generation iPad will indeed be equipped with a “Retina” display.

The report also extrapolates on these findings to suggest that, just because these images were found in the new Twitter.framework, which is new in iOS 5, and iOS 5 is due out this fall, we can expect a next-generation, Retina display equipped iPad to be released in a similar timeframe.

I have no doubt a “Retina” iPad is headed our way. We’ve seen evidence of this as far back as January of this year, where high-resolution imagery was discovered. On that same note, people tried to tie that discovery with the imminent launch of the iPad 2. Of course, that didn’t pan out.

In a nut, using the discovery of single bits of information, such as a few images here or there, doesn’t point to an imminent release. Now, if we saw an entire flood of high-resolution images in an iOS 5 build prior to, say, the September iPod event, then we’d have some significant evidence.

In other words, yes, a “Retina” display-equipped iPad is on it’s way, just not this fall.
