Patently Apple is reporting on a newly-surfaced patent application which shows where Apple may be taking their “Find My iPhone” feature in iOS. The new enchancements described in the patent, give users more control over their device if it’s lost, or god forbid, stolen.
One new feature is Unauthorized Usage Detection, wherein a passcode-enabled device will increase the level of security on the device, after a given number of incorrect passcode entries- that is, increase security around certain information, or enter into a surveillance mode to collect audio, video, and location data.

Another new feature is the limiting of device functions where certain features could be selectively turned on or off if the device is missing. Examples would be, the termination of access to texting, phone, cellular data, and so on. You could also cut off access to VPN capabilities to secure corporate networks.
Lastly, there is a new feature for selective data scrambling and wiping, where, once the device identified as last/stolen, data such as, say, emails could be wiped or scrambled, leaving the rest of the data intact.
