Google Sync for iOS got a little bit better last week with the addition of three new updates:

  • Search now works for e-mails on Google servers, and not just for the messages you have downloaded to your device. This makes searching your archives from the native Mail app on an iPhone or iPad so much more useful.
  • You can now accept, decline, or edit events from inside the default calendar app if you sync your Google Calendar to your device (tap the Invites button on the bottom-right corner).
  • Google Sync can now use the “Send Mail As” option that has been available from the desktop version of Gmail since time immemorial. Unfortunately, set-up is a little convoluted, since you have to head to m.google.com/sync from your current device and tick the “Send Mail As” checkbox. This is not a solution for users who forward all e-mail to Gmail and want to respond from different addresses, though. As of right now, Google Sync only allows you to send from the default “Send Mail As” address that you define within Gmail on your desktop browser.
