I was thinking a lot about the same thing recently. Any app that wants to do well, ha better offer cloud sync. Even if it is to their own (trusted?) server. The reason for me is that with the iPhone we put so much data in our cellphones, like never before, not even in the glorious WinMo days. And we can not think our lives without it. And the device becomes so valuable to us, that we shudder we might loose it/it malfunctions/is stolen. So we want to have all our precious data available so that we can migrate easily to a new device.

So we put everything to the cloud. And hope that the cloud lives forever.
