Stratus, a Free New CloudApp App for iPhone and iPad

Stratus for CloudApp

I use CloudApp mainly as a URL-shortener and temporary image hosting service, and I love how easy it is to track click-throughs with the service. I use the CloudApp client in my menu bar on the Mac, but, until recently, I was at a loss for tracking clicks while using my iOS devices.

Fortunately, Twitter exploded yesterday with news of a third-party CloudApp solution called Stratus. Stratus is a universal app for iPhone and iPad that ties right into your CloudApp account so that you can see all of your previous uploads, check the number of click-throughs, and even upload new content, all from your mobile device. What’s more, the interface is good-looking, dead simple, and completely free to download.

I spent a little bit of time playing with Stratus last night and have already taken a liking to it. You can choose to view your uploads by file type, but if you want to look at All Uploads, Stratus also provides classy little icons along the left side of the screen to tell you what kind of content you’re looking at (URL, image, etc.).

One thing I did notice is that Stratus doesn’t allow for multiple uploads in the way that Dropbox’s app does. That’s alright with me because my CloudApp use cases currently differ from the ones for Dropbox, but it’s something to note for prospective users.

The long and short of it is basically this: Stratus gives me everything I want out of an iOS CloudApp app, and it does it all for free. So unless you really can’t stand the redundancy of an app for CloudApp, there’s really no reason you shouldn’t pick up a copy of Stratus from the App Store.
