Digitimes is reporting that Apple will be ramping up their production of the next-generation MacBook Air next month. The report also claims that they are set to ship 8 million units in Q3 of 2011. More on that figure in a moment.
The report also claims the expected- Thunderbolt built in, and shipping with OS X Lion.
Now, if Apple shipped 8 million units in Q3, that would be a shipment double the size of all the Macs shipped in Q2 2011. I doubt Apple will ship that many MacBook air units. It would be different if that was the total shipment of Macs in the quarter, but that is not how the article conveys that figure.
Also worth pointing out, is that Best Buy’s stock of MacBook Airs, has totally dried up. At least for their online customers. See, their website is reporting that the machines are “not available for shipping” at this time. This suggests that they are likely diverting their remaining stock to their retail stores.
