Confirmed: Web Apps Will Be Available with iCloud

Ever since Apple unveiled iCloud three weeks ago, a lot of people have been wondering whether Apple will kill off the web apps that made up MobileMe, and totally transition to invisible, behind-the-scenes syncing. Well, it seems we finally have an answer straight from the horse’s mouth, with Apple’s posting of a transition guide. The short answer- Yes, web apps will continue to live on with iCloud.

More interestingly, a few things are going away. The chart included in Apple’s transition guide, shows that iCloud will drop support for iDisk, Gallery, and iWeb publishing. Items that, at least to my mind, seemed to have been on the chopping block for some time. Remember, MobileMe will still be around until June 30th, 2012, so you have plenty of time to find a new home for your content. These features will remain in place until that date regardless whether the user stays with MobileMe, or transitions to iCloud.

One last item of note, is that once a user transitions over to iCloud, they will lose syncing of Mac Dashboard widgets, keychains, items in the Dock, and system preferences that had been synced with MobileMe.
