Apple today, has put several Thunderbolt-equipped RAID systems from Promise on their online store. These devices offer storage ranging from 4TB to 12TB. The 4TB model supports data transfer of 500MB/sec, while the upper models offer 800MB/sec data transfer.
Far more interesting, or at least as interesting as cables can be, Apple has debuted a $49 Thunderbolt cable, so you can actually connect the pricy RAID system you just bought. You know, just so you feel nickel and dimed. Both of these items ship within 24hrs.
Today’s release essentially proves report that surfaced yesterday. That is, Thunderbolt peripherals are not currently fit for the regular consumer due to the price. Personally, I don’t know many people in the market for a $1999 RAID system.
