Report Claims Apple Has Ordered 15 Million Next-Gen iPhone Units for September Shipment

Screen shot 2011-03-08 at 1.08.14 AM.pngDigiTimes is reporting that Pegatron Technology has received an order from Apple for the production of 15 million “iPhone 5” devices. The report also claims that the new iPhone will ship in September.

There is very little in this report that we hadn’t heard before. As predicted, Apple did not release new iPhone hardware this year at WWDC, and it appears that they company will be withholding a hardware update until September, which is the traditional timeframe in which Apple introduces new iPod models.

In other words, as more reports surface claiming the same thing- a minor hardware update due in September- it becomes less and less rumor, and more and more fact. I hope this is true, because I just destroyed my trusty iPod touch on a hike in the mountains of Gatlinburg. I’m in the market for a new iPhone.
