With iPhones selling for as litle as $99, it should be obvious to any thinking person that price isn’t a barrier for anyone; if you can’t afford a sub-$100 device, then you simply shouldn’t consider owning a cell phone. But, the elevated monthly fees are something else; most iPhone owners spend $100+ each month, and that $2,400 obligation over the life of the 2-year contract is a deal-breaker for lower-income individuals, so the carriers have to offer a cheaper alternative to reel in these particular customers. And– a smaller iPhone? For what purpose? If the screen were any smaller than the current 3.5 inches, the device would be unpleasant and frustrating to use, so what’s the point?
