Report Claims Thinner and Lighter iPhone Coming this Fall

Screen shot 2011-03-08 at 1.08.14 AM.pngThe Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is prepping to launch a new iPhone in Q3 of this year. They also claim that Apple is aiming for a production run o 25 million by year’s end.

This report is interesting in that they claim the next-generation iPhone will be “thinner and lighter”. This of course, is in direct contradiction to many of the other reports we’ve been hearing regarding the next-generation iPhone. That is, other reports claim that the next iPhone will look very similar to the current iPhone 4 design.

The report also notes that Apple manufacturers are having difficulty in keeping up yield rates due to the devices being “complicated and difficult to assemble”. If that’s the case, it makes sense that Apple is starting production now, to meet a September launch.

The next iPhone is expected to be released this September alongside new iPods. The device will likely use Apple’s A5 processor currently being used in the iPad 2. The device will likely also have an 8-megapixel camera, dual flash models, and utilize a new radio chip from Qualcomm that can operate on either CDMA or GSM networks.
