TinyTower (v1.1)
Picked by: Brandon
My pick of the week is crack. No wait… Sorry. My pick of the week is Tiny Tower, which might as well be crack because if you download this (freemium) game and start playing it, you can pretty much kiss your family, friends and job goodbye. The premise is simple. Build a tower, add some people to work in the shops and keep those shops stocked so you can earn money to build a bigger tower. You give elevator rides and complete tasks to earn Tower Bux which can help you get more money, faster elevators and other things. Super simple. So, if it’s so simple… Can someone please tell me why the heck I can’t stop playing it?!

100 Cameras in One
Picked by: PatrickJ
This is a great photo effects app, created and published by the hugely acclaimed photographer, Trey Ratcliff. Check out his site, stuckincustoms.com, to see some of his amazing travel photography. It offers 100 truly unique and different effects to apply and a very simple and effective UI to use them in. You just swipe left and right to browse through the effects, which load very quickly and offer you an instant look at what their effect is. There’s also a simple slider control to manually adjust the level of each effect, and a button to add glow to an image. It’s a little thing but I really like that the effects have ‘poetic’ names – like ‘Where the thunderdome shook the earth’.
You can save your altered image creations to the photo library or share them via Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and SmugMug.
The app even has an Explore section with lots of very useful hints, tips and links.
There is an iPhone version and an iPad version; unfortunately no universal app yet, but both are priced very reasonably.

Retractable USB to iPhone/iPod/Mini USB/Micro USB Data & Charging Cable
Picked by: Joe Tomasone ![]()
For those who travel around with a plethora of power-hungry devices like I do, space and weight are a premium, and anything that cuts down the clutter is a good thing. I’d previously been using retractable iDevice cables, but recently I spotted these all-in-one cables at DealExtreme.com (one of my geekier destinations on the Web). With both an iPad and a host of devices that charge from Micro USB (Jawbone JamBox and Era, Mophie Juice Pack Air, Samsung Hotspot, etc), it’s nice to have one cable that can handle pretty much any task that I can throw at it. And, at only $7.20 each (with free shipping, but it’s on the slow boat from China, alas), you can afford to get as many as you need plus a few spares. You can even charge two devices at the same time – I regularly charge my Jawbone Era headset on the same cable that is charging my iPad. Saves space, time, weight, and is cheap. Score!

SeaWorld (v2.0)
Picked by: Renkman
On a recent trip to SeaWorld Orlando, I decided to see if there was an iPhone app that displayed a map of the park so I didn’t have to carry around one of the large paper maps they giveaway at the front of the entrance. This is an official park app that works at all three SeaWorld parks (Orlando, San Diego, and San Antonio). It’s really a powerful app that makes a visit to Sea World that much easier. Here are some of the great features…
– Includes San Diego, San Antonio and Orlando locations.
– True GPS navigation provides a highlighted path to your destination.
– Interactive park map with search. Find nearest restroom, place to eat, ATM and more.
– Up-to-date wait times on rides, plus ride height requirements.
– Displays next show times for each park’s SeaWorld’s spectacular shows.
– Get basic park info, calendar with operating hours, weather forecast and driving directions.
– Stay up-to-date with each park’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.
– In-app camera. Take pictures of your trip without leaving the app.
– Learn about our animals and their conservation status, then get directions to connect with them in person.
– Personalize your day with guided tours and Quick Queue.
