ZDNet Asia, and numerous other news agencies are reporting on Google Chairman Eric Schmidt’s recent remarks in regards to the lawsuits between Apple and Android-based phone makers. Specifically, Schmidt’s comments came during the Tokyo-based Mobile Revolution conference, wherein he stated he is “not too worried” about the suits. Furthermore he makes a low blow and states that Apple (and other big tech companies) turn to lawsuits when they “cannot respond through innovations”.
Schmidt further notes that they will not allow HTC to fail in regards to their legal battle with Apple. Remember, Apple won a preliminary victory just yesterday, in their suit against HTC for patent infringement. This suggests that Google is, or has been helping HTC in this fight.
Granted Schmidt is a savvy businessman who helped Google become what it is today, and I’m just a writer, but I see it a little differently than he does. That is, Apple is not suing because they no longer have what it takes to compete with Android, but rather HTC and Samsung, are walking all over their hardware patents. This really isn’t a matter of software. However, I will agree that if Apple does hamstring HTC over hardware, it puts a major damper on one of Google’s largest hardware partners.
Perhaps I’m looking at this wrong. We’d love to hear from you regarding this matter. Please leave a comment.
