I can’t stand this feature, I am thankful I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

Just installed Lion and I’m sure I could get used to it, but would rather not. Thanks for the info. And yes, if you don’t have a mouse but only the trackpad you have to change the setting in trackpad

But since I use a Mac and a PC about equally, This was bound to drive me crazy trying to switch between them.

I cannot stand this functionality. I was thinking this was a major failing on Apple’s part, but they’ve redeemed themselves by making it so easy to disable. But they’d do well to publicise how to get rid of it. Thankfully I stumbled across your post to take care of that. Thanks Again. F

It is actually a tool to emulate natural scrolling when you work with snow leopard. In Lion, it gives you the old fashioned scroll style back!

Google pilotmoon scrollreverser

There is also the option you mention under Trackpad, and it looks as if the two are independent of each other.

I just installed the latest version of Lion from the app store and the mouse prefs do not match the screenshot above. The option is under “Trackpad” and the checkbox is labeled “Scroll Direction: Natural”. Maybe the author is using a desktop mac without a trackpad???

But since you asked, I think I could easily get used to the new scrolling method, but it will be a major hassle when going back and forth between Mac and Windows so I am disabling it.

They’re trying to make the scrolling gesture the same between trackpads and their iOS devices. The swiping-upwards two-finger gesture is akin to grabbing the bottom of the page and pulling it upwards. Once you can wrap your brain around that metaphor, it makes lots of sense.

That said, I still haven’t gotten the hang of it using my scrollwheel mouse. 🙂
