The text remains stubbornly at the top left of the text field and cannot be centred. I rang Apple about this and the person I spoke to had no idea why this has disappeared or if there is any workaround. A big thumbs down for Lion in my opinion. I’m now dreading to discover what else has changed for the worse in Preview which was one of my favourite and most useful Apps.

Lion Tweaks software I thought was a permanent solver to this issue but Lion rehides it after logging out.

This preview issue is not a small thing, it’s a big thing, as it is my most frequently used function in preview, and why would you use any other application for these sort of actions, Photoshop takes ages to load by comparison and is not as convenient to use.

So far I haven’t a problem with the scroll bars not showing up until you scroll, though I do wonder why they have to bounce rather than just stop when they come to the end, it slows functionality a little and lacks some clarity when working quickly, though I think I am becoming less aware of it now, but the scroll bars when visible cover up the bottom item in a list and make’s it feel less accessible and harder to read the filename. There’s a lot of small issues like this, but they all add up and make the general feel of working less productive and less comfortable.

Basically far too many unnecessary changes, why add options and takes others away, it’s great to have new ways of doing things, extra methods that some people may find helpful, but assuming everyone will find them better is a little arrogant and short sighted, add functionality by all means, but leave what’s already there for those that prefer that, at-least give more options in the preferences so you can decide which options work for you and which do not, OS X could do with improving it’s social skills with greater user customisability, rather than moving more and more in the direction of becoming a dictator. Do I sense Apple’s disregard for it’s customers is showing itself in the way it writes it’s software? Final Cut X is a good example of lacking customisable ways of working, and the iPhone illegally collecting user data is a very good example of arrogance, underhandedness and disrespect of users. It will taint all that Apple does, and I’m glad I never converted to the iPhone, and pretty much doubt I ever will now.

Having said all that, I think there are a lot of improvements in Lion that I have come to like, some of which are just things that should have worked but never did in Snow Leopard. My MacBookPro now will actually sleep without having to use external apps to force it to… Lion will be pretty good once it’s been ironed out a bit, and despite the initial problems and having to find workarounds for some of these issues I am now glad I upgraded to it, though maybe Christmas may have been a better time to have done so.

GRR!

I have a 1000 page pdf catalog file that is searchable. In 10.6, you could search a product number and it would show the few pages that it could be found only. Now in 10.7, you get the pages with matches but is also shows other unrelated pages. Why change the search? Maybe I am missing the setting to make this happen but I can’t find it.
