BGR is reporting that Apple may be looking into acquiring Barnes & Noble. The report also claims that Apple will release iTunes 11 this fall alongside iOS 5, which allow for the reading of iBooks on a computer.
Barnes & Noble currently operates 700 stores, and 600 college bookstores, and has made inroads in the e-book market. That raises a question- what would Apple want with Barnes & Noble? Apple could spend the $1Billion needed to purchase Barnes & Noble (the company’s current market cap), Apple certainly has the cash.
Besides, if Apple has wanted to buy a bookseller, Apple could have bought Borders for pennies on the dollar. So there’s that.
