Tinhte.vn, a Vietnamese site, has published photos claiming to be that of a lower-cost prototype iPhone 4. These images reportedly came from a “very reliable source”, while the report further describes the device as lacking glass, which is replaced by plastic, to help keep costs down.
Tinhte.vn has gained access to other devices in the past, which over the course of time, have proven to be correct. Examples include original iPhone 4 prototypes, an iPod touch prototype with a camera, and a 64GB white iPhone running an early version of iOS 4. So, even though some discredit the photos as fake, or rigged, this site does have credibility with their previous reports.
Of course, it’s being rumored that Apple may release two new iPhone models this year, one on the high end (iPhone 5) and one on the lower-end, with a lower price, and perhaps even a prepaid plan. Apparently the current iPhone 4 as it is being constructed today, is still too expensive to make it a lower-rung, entry-level phone.
