AllThingsD is reporting that, according to a source “familiar with Apple’s plans”, the next-generation iPhone will launch in October, and not in September as had been previously rumored. Going even further, they suggest that the new iPhone may arrive late in October at that.
AllThingsD has a pretty solid track record, which gives this report credibility. However, the only way I can see this playing out, is if Apple were to announce the new iPhone in September, promising a release in the next month. Apple has done it before. But then one must consider the timeframe being played with. The report claims that the new iPhone could launch as late as the end of October- That gives Apple little time to push out enough units for the Christmas rush.
If Apple were to launch the new iPhone in September (which even in light of this report, is the commonly held belief at this time.), similar to the way Apple has introduced new iPods in September for the past several years, it will give the company plenty of time to fill their retail channels and meet holiday demand.
