Apple Updates Logic, Bringing Bug Fixes and other Improvements
Apple has released software updates for both Logic Pro and Logic Express, bringing version numbers to 9.1.5 for both applications. These updates fix a number of minor bugs, while also improving compatibility with the Apogee Duet 2 audio interface device. The updates weigh between 140MB and 190MB, and require Mac OS X 10.5.8. or later. [Read More]
Report Claims Next-Generation iPhone Coming to Russia this Fall
Bloomberg is reporting that Russian newspaper RBC Daily is claiming that Russian mobile network providers are in discussions with Apple, and plan to launch the next-generation iPhone as early as November in that country. Traditionally, Russia receives the iPhone several months after the official launch of the iPhone in the States, and some international markets. [Read More]
Apple Launches New $999 iMac for Educational Institutions
Very quietly, Apple has rolled out a new, lower-cost, $999 iMac for educational institutions. This machine is for education only, and cannot be purchased by individuals. The system specs are as follows: 3.1GHz Intel Core i3 Dual-Core processor, 21.5-inch screen, AMD Radeon HD 6750 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive, and OS X Lion. These machines do not include Thunderbolt. The $1149 machine, which is a step up, offers much the same, except a faster 2.5GHz Quad-Core i5, 4GB or RAM and 500GB hard drive. Apple also appears to still be selling the $899 20-inch iMac, which offers the previous generation enclosure, and older Core 2 Duo Processors. [Read More]
Apple Hit with Suit Regarding ‘Fast Booting’ in OS X
Patently Apple is reporting that Apple is being sued over the use of “fast booting” which is used in OS X to speed up the system booting process. The patent application was first filed in 1999 by LG Electronics. Indeed LG is an Apple competitor in the smartphone market, but they are also a display supplier for Apple’s own manufacturing needs. The patent has been bought and sold, and passed along until it landed in the hands of a Florida-based company called Operating Systems Solutions, LLC, which may be a shell company created for the sole purpose of filing this suit.
