FOSS Patents is reporting that Apple has been granted an injunction barring the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union, except for the Netherlands. This whole patent dispute stems from Apple’s claims that Samsung is copying the iPad’s look and feel with their own Galaxy Tab 10.1 device.
Just last week Samsung agreed to cease sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, as Apple pursued similar claims in that country. However, in Australia Samsung is arguing that Apple is using the same reasons as their U.S. case, which aren’t necessarily pertinent in that country. Nonetheless, Samsung has agreed to supply Apple’s lawyers with samples of the Galaxy Tab hardware, and delay the launch in Australia.
In other words, Apple is winning the fight on at least one front, which is interesting. It remains to be seen how Apple will fare in similar legal battles, both at home and abroad.
