I’m not usually one to care at all about release dates for new books – new iPad and iPhone and gadget releases I’m all over, but I can’t recall a time when I was rushing to a book store when a new title was launched.
But … a new biography of Steve Jobs – a fully authorized biography of Jobs – now that’s a book whose release date I care a lot about. The release date in question is November 21 – and the book in question is ‘Steve Jobs: A Biography’, by Walter Isaacson.
The bio has been written with Jobs’ full cooperation.
Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues this book chronicles the rollercoaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.
That sounds excellent and like one hell of a read – especially given how famously private a person Jobs is. This sounds like it will provide a deeper look at the man than anything we’ve seen so far.
Here’s another excerpt from the book’s description at the Barnes and Noble page for it, one that makes the book even more enticing:
Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off limits and instead encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly even foes, former girlfriends, and colleagues he had once fired or infuriated. … Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. Likewise, his friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.
I honestly can’t wait to read this biography. Whether you’re an Apple fan or an Apple hater, there’s no denying the enormous impact Steve Jobs has had on the tech industry and on the world through the massively popular consumer devices he has championed. He’s one of the most fascinating figures in the world of tech and business during my lifetime – and getting any sort of peek into what makes him tick has got to make for a fantastic read.
