Quick Look: TinyVox Pro for iPhone

TinyVox Pro is a fantastic app for quickly creating voice recordings of up to 20 minutes without having to fuss with the file format or how to share it.

Record, then Share

All you have to do is load TinyVox Pro, quickly record something, choose the service if you’d like to share it with, and then tap a gigantic share button. There are options to share via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Soundcloud (but make sure that you title your tape before you send it off). The only thing I really miss is the ability to tell whether or not you have already shared a record, and to find out who you may have sent it to you if that’s the case.

Ooo, Pretty

The concept behind TinyVox Pro is already a very good and very useful one, but what makes this app particularly great is how much love and care the developers put into the gorgeous visuals. I particularly like how the interface balances the analog styling of the tape deck buttons and the cassette metaphor for the recording, while ensuring that the layout makes sense on the iPhone’s small screen. The result is an interface that is great for showing off, it is also instantly recognizable and navigable for new users.

Hi-Fi(ve)!

I don’t make audio memos all that often because I usually prefer to dictate my notes directly into something like Dragon Dictation, but I’ve been so impressed by TinyVox Pro that it has completely replaced the default voice memo app on my iPhone. The high quality voice recording option (sample here), in particular, is very cool. It lowers the upload limit to about 12 minutes, but I think that’s a worthy trade off for the crystal clear voice quality.

At five dollars, TinyVox Pro is fantastic purchase for the iPhone and is also worth installing on an iPad. However, if that five dollars is too rich for your blood, you can also download a free version of Tinyvox that is ad-supported.
