Macotakara is reporting that Apple is planning to roll out a new Mac product to their existing line of computers. They claim that the machine will be different from Apple’s current offerings, and will be introduced by the end of this year.
Even though Macotakara’s track record is hit or miss, there could be some credibility in this claim. For years, users have been asking for a Mac that isn’t as stripped down as the Mac Mini, has similar power to the iMac, but lacks the built in screen. Essentially a lower-performance version of a Mac Pro. That is, if this new machine is a desktop computer.
On the other hand, this could play into recent reports that we’ve heard claiming that Apple is working on a 15-inch MacBook with a form factor similar to the current MacBook Airs, lacking an optical drive, and utilizing SSDs.
If I had to guess, this hypothetical new machine, would be a notebook computer. Apple is clearly moving away from desktop machines, seeing as Apple has allowed the Mac Pro to sit unrefreshed for over a year, and only refreshing the iMacs and Mac Minis when they feel damn good and ready. Plus Apple recently axed the white MacBooks, making room for a new line of computers. This of course, is all speculation on my part.
