Apple Still Faces Challenges with Next-Generation iPad’s ‘Retina’ Display Production

hardware-04-20101116.jpgDigiTimes is reporting that Chimei Innolux, the company believed to be manufacturing the next-generation iPad’s high resolution “Retina” displays, has failed to receive certification to become an LCD manufacturer for Apple.

This doesn’t come as a surprise seeing as how we’ve heard similar reports recently, regarding Samsung and LG, and poor yield rates for such high resolution displays. After all, the new displays are expected to carry a 2048×1536 resolution, which is double the current iPad’s 1024×768 resolution.

Of course, all of the speculation surrounding a possible “Retina” display coming to a future iPad, was sparked by a discovery of ultra-high resolution images associated with the iBooks application were found in the applications’s resources.

Lastly, it is believed that the displays currently used in the iPad, were the bottleneck for production, and why Apple couldn’t meet demand until very recently. Food for thought.
