BGR is reporting on an internal Best Buy memo which notes that the company is expecting the release of the next-generation iPhone during the first week of October. The memo also notes that the company is expecting the new device to support Sprint’s network alongside the existing Verizon and AT&T capabilities.
This lines up nicely with a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, which claimed that the new iPhone was headed to the Sprint network. Of course, Apple has been known to issue controlled information leaks through the Wall Street Journal in the past.
Also worth pointing out, is a report from ThisIsMyNext, which claims that Best Buy is preparing for a new “Apple Fixture Installation” on Friday, October 21st, and request that managers be on site an hour early at 6AM. This could be a display of some sort for the new iPhone, considering that Apple did something similar when the iPhone 4 was launched last year.
In short, this could mean that Best Buy knows something we don’t, and are officially pegging the date on their calendar. Or it could simply mean that they are reading the same news reports that we are, and are trying to brace for the introduction.
