As we move closer to the inevitable launch of a new iPhone, we’re hearing ever more rumors regarding what that device might look like. Currently it is believed that that Apple will be replacing the iPhone 3GS with a “iPhone 4S”, while replacing the iPhone 4 with a new “iPhone 5”. Components with an internal “N94” designation have surfaced, and are believed to be headed for the “iPhone 4S” model.
Now in iOS 5 Beta 7, which was released to developers last week, included a hidden image (via MacRumors) which features the FCC ID for the “N94” device. The same kind of regulatory information that can be accessed on your iOS device by going through Settings > General > About > Regulatory.
The device carries a FCC ID of BCG-E2430A, but that code has not yet shown up in the FCC’s equipment authorization database. That said, products traditionally don’t show up in the database until the day of their introduction. Plus, Apple traditionally requests that materials such as photos be kept from the public for a period of time after introduction.
It seems the mystery around the next-generation iPhone(s) is finally beginning to clear up. It seems all but certain that we will see an A5-powered iPhone that looks nearly identical to the current iPhone 4 released later this year. However, it’s still unclear as to whether that will be the only update, or if Apple will be introducing an all-new iPhone (“iPhone 5”) model as well.
