The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is now certified to sell the 3G iPad 2 in China. Prior to their certification, Apple was only selling the Wi-Fi iPad 2 models in mainland China. So there’s that.

In other news pertaining to Apple’s offerings in Asia, it is being reported that Apple will be opening their first official retail store in Hong Kong. The store will be opening this quarter, specifically September 24th, in the International Finance Center’s IFC mall.

Neither of these announcements should come as a surprise. Apple over the past several years, has been making a dramatic push to penetrate the Asian market. They’re putting their money where their mouth is, and so far, it seems to be working.

In other words, this could be really big news for Apple’s bottom line going forward.
