AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is preparing the release a new version of the AirPort Express base station. Suspicions of a refresh have emerged due to shortages in third-party retailer supplies.
Furthermore, there is evidence within in Apple’s AirPort Utility 5.6, which Apple is finishing work on, of a new Express model. We saw similar references in AirPort Utility 5.5.3 prior to Apple’s release of new Time Capsule and Airport Extreme models, earlier this summer.
Those updates saw increased storage capacities (for the Time Capsule) and increased wireless range and performance. So, it would be a safe guess that the new AirPort Express would see a similar upgrade.
