9to5Mac is reporting that a Sprint-specific iPad is on it’s way, and will be ready for launch next month. But that’s the thing, Apple could simply offer their CDMA iPad that they currently sell to Verizon customers, on Sprint’s network. That is, after Sprint announces a deal next month to be one of Apple’s carrier partners going forward.
The fact that an Sprint-specific iPad is on it’s way suggests that the device will offer something specific to Sprint’s network. Currently, Sprint operates a 4G network on the WiMAX technology. Speculation then turns to this network technology being incorporated in the Sprint iPad.
Remember, it’s widely believed that Sprint will begin carrying the iPhone on their network next month. So, the inclusion of the iPad seems natural. If Apple does indeed offer a Sprint iPad, it will mean that they are shipping an astounding 27 different models when storage capacity, color, and carrier are all taken into consideration. No wonder Apple streamlined their online iPad selection process earlier this month.
