Apple Releases Lion Internet Recovery to Current MacBook Pro Models

features_connected_wifi20110426.jpgApple has quietly released a firmware update for currently shipping Macbook Pros, which gives them the same access to Lion Recovery over the internet that the new, shipping MacBook Airs and Mac Minis are built with. This update also fixes an issue with connectivity to Apple’s Thunderbolt display, which the company is just now shipping.

Of course, Internet Recovery is part of OS X Lion and allows users to install Lion on blank hard drives. This works by Lion falling back into recovery mode, and then downloading and installing Lion from there.

Until today, the only two machines with this capability where the MacBook Airs and Mac Minis that were introduced alongside Lion this past July. I suspected Apple would do this, and if I had to guess, they’ll continue to expand this feature to their other, shipping, Macs.
