At first I figured I’d deal with the limitations with things by using dropbox to sync between my Macs but then I had it with them when I realized that I couldn’t sync my iPhone to both macs. Not only can Omnifocus do all of that, they also include photo AND audio recording! Their iOS apps look decent and you could always increase the font size and even change it into something more elegant.

@David

current temptations: ToDo from Appigo and maybe The Hitlist if I could find an iPad app for it, too.

I’ve used over 20 iOS task manager and it always comes down to wanting to use Things because they make their app look sleek, fast and simple. There’s simply no app that compares to this look. I’ve tried using omnifocus for a while but their Mac app is UGLY, and their UI is simply way to complex for my needs. I just want things to look good and simple as possible so I can focus more on getting things done, not figuring out how the app works and where to put the tasks.

Keep in mind though that even when CulturedCode finally does come out with ota sync, it doesn’t mean they will get any better. They’ve been promising sync for years now and every time a customer requests a feature they said that they’ll keep that in mind or they don’t announce future plans. And if people ask about the sync they’ll just rudely direct them to their FAQ or progress page which says it’s a work in progress. There are other todo companies that do this too like Remember The Milk and Appigo, but Toodledo and Omnifocus give great customer service and is really in touch with their userbase.

The closest thing that I’ve found to Things would have to be The Hitlist, it looks great and the sync is instant if you are willing to fork over a monthly or yearly fee for ota sync. Still not as pretty as things and be warned that their customer service is probably even worse than CulturedCode. They creator of that app went dark a whole year and then just magically came back alive and launched his app one day :-O

@Erik
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve used ToDo on the iPhone but the iPad app just doesn’t look quite the same to me. UI isn’t cluttered per se, but the notebook metaphor isn’t quite my style, so I haven’t tried it out.

It syncs OTA with toodledo. It’s interface has always reminded me of Things. Maybe you would like it.
