I love it when great apps get major updates built around speed and refining the interface. Enough has been written about Instagram 2.0 today (in the mere hours since its release), but I wanted to chime in anyway and add that the app has also been running smoothly on my aging 3GS.
I tend to run fewer and fewer apps on my iPhone these days because it just isn’t as fast on current (and beta) firmware as when I first picked it up in 2009, and so I’m really glad that Instagram has focused on making their app faster and easier to use, even on last (soon to be last-last) generation hardware.
Pictures load near-instantly, upload at higher resolution, and the live filter previews only take half a second to activate. Whatever kind of voodoo they’re doing over at the Instagram offices really seems to be working: Instagram V2.0 is fast and well worth the update. If you haven’t already tried this awesome social camera app out, here’s a quick link for Instagram on the App Store.
