V-R Zone points to an announcement from Intel claiming that the company’s Ivy Bridge processors will be able to handle graphics at 4096×4096. This would qualify as “Retina” display, similar to the resolution seen on the iPhone 4.
Ivy Bridge, which Apple will likely adopt in their next-generation Macs, along with being a nice processor boost, will also have significantly improved integrated graphics. This isn’t usually a problem on heftier machines like the MacBook Pro, iMacs and Mac Pros, as they use dedicated graphics cards, but for the MacBook Air and Mac Mini, its a substantial improvement.
Apple has been making headway into the “Retina” display arena for Macs, by slowly rolling out technologies needed for the transition behind the scenes This Ivy Bridge announcement seems confirm the necessity of Apple’s recent advancements in that area.
