iPhone Coming to Sprint

sprint-logo.jpgJust as had been rumored, Apple announced today alongside the new iPhone 4S, that Sprint would now be one of the carriers offering the device in the U.S. That means the country’s #3 carrier will be joining AT&T and Verizon in carrying the device.

With that said, a lot of details surrounding the announcement are still hazy. For instance, Apple’s site simply states that the iPhone is “coming soon” to sprint customers. It does appear that the carrier will also be offering the iPhone 4 alongside the new iPhone 4S. Sprint will offer the iPhone 4S the same day as the other carriers – October 14th.

It’s currently unknown if Sprint will keep their existing smartphone plans for the iPhone or if they would be recalibrating them for the new device. Also on the business end, Sprint notes that they will not be making any money off of this deal with Apple until 2014. This truly is a all-or-nothing deal for ailing carrier.

In short, it seems we know little more after the announcement than we did prior to it. Sprint will be hosting the iPhone, but the cost of the plans, and other details that consumers find important, are still up in the air.
