New Cards App – Pay Real Money to Send Real Paper to Real People

The first real new piece of info we have at today’s Apple Event is the announcement of a new app, Cards, which will be a free download on the App Store. The purpose of the app? To help you mail photo cards ($2.99 to the US, $4.99 anywhere else) to your friends who don’t like looking at photos on computer screens.

I don’t actually have anything against real paper photos, but you’ve got to admit that this really isn’t a terribly exciting thing to start a “Let’s Talk iPhone” presentation with. This is really more like bullet point stuff to put up at the end of the day to show Apple website visitors.

All I can say is: thank God it’s a free download. That way I won’t have to shove Cards into a folder of “rarely used apps” that simply can’t be hidden.
