With all the excitement of integrating Siri Assistant in the iPhone 4S, I decided to pull up the no-longer-available Siri app on my iPhone 3Gs. Interestingly, in Apple style, I was greeted with the screen above, which makes me think its days as a useful standalone app is literally numbered.
I wanted to like Siri when I grabbed it over a year ago, and I did like its potential. It nearly always translated my speech accurately, but the results of the searches were occasionally inaccurate (“Where’s the nearest hot tub store?” once led me to a location where there was no such business). When I heard Apple bought Siri a while back, I was hopeful that the mergers of the two technologies would result in something as exciting as the 4S, and seeing the promoted video, I feel that Star Trek ideas are becoming reality (and I can drive more safely, too).
