“”I’m a Mac” –I am more than surprised at my own reaction to the passing of Steve Jobs so I have given a lot of thought about the reasons that so many of us are truly saddened by the loss of a man who was, after all, just a computer guy. The best explanation I can come up with is that being a follower of Apple and all that comes with it seems to draw you into the membership of a very special group of people the world over. It is a bright shiny place in a world where violence, greed and other darkness abounds, where societies everywhere are faced with insecurity, fear and an increased lack of solidarity. Steve Jobs created a community that is amazingly loyal no matter where you live and what language you speak. If you get what it’s all about, then you will understand the pleasure of meeting someone who learns of your “appleness” and who responds with “I’m a Mac, too”. It’s a bridge, it’s a bond and it’s a community spirit. He taught us it’s okay to “think different” and it’s okay to BE different and not just okay, but potentially awesome and important. Our lives and Apple will go on without Steve but hopefully the fires of “think different” will continue to burn and show us the way to become yet another person who makes this world a better place because they had the guts to think outside the box.” Rest in Peace Steve, you will be remembered, you will be missed.
