Apple Updates MacBook Pro Line with Minor Spec Upgrades, Makes Minor Changes to iPad Smart Cover Colors

Apple has very quietly update their MacBook Pro line of computers with faster processors, graphics, and increased storage. The new machines remain at the same price points at before, and start at $1199.

For the 13-inch model, Apple previously offered 2.3 Core i5 and 2.7GHz Core i7 processor options. They now offer 2.4GHz and 2.8 GHz options. Storage capacity also saw a bump from 320GB and 500GB options to 500 and 750GB options.

The 15-inch model formerly offered 2.0 and 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor options, and now offers 2.2 and 2.4GHz options, with a bump on the high end from the former 2.3GHz to a 2.5GHz option. Apple also improved discrete graphics for this machine. The company as of yesterday offered the AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB of memory on the low-end and the Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB of memory on the high-end. Now they moved the 6750M down to the low-end with 512MB and introduced a new Radeon HD 6770M with 1 GB of memory for the high-end. As for storage the BTO option has been bumped 500GB to 750GB at 7200rpm.

Lastly, Apple updated the 17-inch MacBook Pro to have a base processor of 2.4GHz with a 2.5GHz option, the same new graphics as seen on the 15-inch model, and a similar hard drive upgrade as the 15-inch model as well.

In other quiet update news, Apple also slightly adjusted the colors of their iPad 2 Smart Cover offerings. The biggest changes being that Apple killed off the orange polyurethane cover, and replaced it with a dark gray option, and apparently the colors are more vibrant on the polyurethane options as well.

The color of both the leather and polyurethane options is not the same on the interior and the exterior. Formerly the interior was gray regardless of exterior color. Also, Apple made the Navy blue leather cover, a little more Navy this time around.

Smart Cover pricing remains at $39 for the polyurethane models, and $69 for the leather options.
