Jobs Reportedly “Cracked” the Problem Surrounding the Television Industry, Prototypes on the Way

Steve Jobs himself even noted that the market for such devices was fragmented, and that most control lay with cable operators controlling the experience with their own proprietary set-top boxes.

Well, the just-released Steve Jobs biography, as excerpted by the Washington Post, suggests that Apple is indeed well on it’s way to creating Apple Television Sets. Here’s the excerpt:

“He very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant,” Isaacson wrote.

Isaacson continued: “‘I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.’”

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster believes that the new Apple Television set will be released as early as next year, and could be a significant revenue generator for the company. He also claims that prototypes are “in the works”. So, there’s that.
