Apple recently updated their Apple Store iOS application and it now supports self-checkout at the company’s retail stores. This app now allows customers visiting any Apple retail store to snap a picture of a shelf-stocked items’ barcode and purchase the item with their Apple ID/iTunes Store accounts.
Here is what Apple has to say about the app:
What’s New in Version 2.0
– Personal Pickup: Buy in the app and choose to pick up your order at any Apple Retail Store. Most in-stock orders are available for pickup within an hour. (U.S. only)
– EasyPay: Purchase select accessories in store quickly by scanning the barcode and completing your transaction right in the app. (U.S. only, requires iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S)
– Track your stuff: View the status of current and previous orders from the order status section in the More tab.
– Additional international support (Canada, China).
Also worth noting at this time is that Apple is slowly rolling out in-store pickup for online purchases in the US. This allows customers to order a product online and have it delivered to their local Apple Store. This alleviates the problem of arranging a delivery time for a customers home or office. On the flip side, if it’s a product in stock, the item will become available for pickup within minutes of the order.
In other words, Apple is making leaps and bounds to improve their already world-class shopping experience.
