I honestly haven’t tried the my Icon with a Windows Phone, so I can’t comment on that. However, I’m still seeing solid performance from Siri with my headset. In fact, it has been a relief re-gaining access to Siri this week, as I was locked out due to some kind of bug in the last iOS 6 beta that a simple reset or Network Reset wouldn’t fix. I got it back with Beta 4 on Monday, and have been much happier in the car since.

Have you tried upgrading your Icon or checking the profile using Jawbone’s website interface? I only say this because there have been a few updates related to voice dialing in general, and Siri specifically, that they have addressed. I also know that the profile I last loaded a few months ago mentioned Siri in the description.

I know these changes have had some positive effects. When I first started using the Icon just before I wrote this article, there were occasions when I would initiate Siri by holding the Icon’s button, and the delay between this and the full audio connection to the headset would be too long, and Siri would time out and stop listening. This no longer happens to me since the last update. Any time I start Siri with the headset now, it works for me.

Sorry you are having issues, but if you haven’t updated, you should. It could make a big difference in the performance you are seeing.

I love the iPhone 4S awesome apps etc, but crap for handsfree. I use the Jawbone Icon or Noise Assasin with say the Nokia Lumia series and it is extremely clear and accurate. Eg, text message comes in and it asks you if you want it read and then allows you to respond, call or finish… all with 95% accuracy.

The iPhone’s SIRI does not seem to work through the bluetooth feature, only directly into the phone or wired headset 🙁

Test it, more than 1m away and it’s useless on iPhone with SIRI and even if it does work 40% it takes forever , the Lumia is clean accurate and fast, like within 2 seconds 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you are having issues. I’m curious. How and where do you tend to use Siri with your Jawbone? Mine is mostly in the car and in quiet environments. I have noticed that my success rate with dictation goes down quite a bit when it is raining or extremely windy out. Also, I have had issues the few times I have attempted it in loud rooms.

That is my experience with dictation. However, I rarely have any issues getting Siri to make calls or set up appointments correctly. It is hit and miss with proper names or special phrases, but it does that no matter if you use a headset or not.

I can say that on a handful of occasions I have had a really tough time getting Siri to do anything right. In each instance, turning the Icon off and back on, which forces a new Bluetooth connection, has fixed the problem for me.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that Jawbone states that they aren’t compatible with Siri, since it isn’t their product and they have no control over it. However, it would be nice to get an update down the line that will enhance the experience.

However, this was back around the end of November. I’ll check again for updates, but below is the response I received from Jawbone after asking them about Siri support. (They said that they don’t current support Siri).

That’s wierd. Mine says “Voice Dialing,” and then pulls up Siri. Have you gone to the web interface tool and set the button action to voice dialing?

I have a jawbone icon as well and love it except for the fact that it will not initiate Siri. When I press and hold the action button for the 2 seconds that the directions say I hear 1 beep then when I let go of the action button I hear a dull beep and then nothing happens. Am I missing something? I have the latest software and everything is up to date but it’s kind of frustrating. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have the same Belkin, and it’s no where close to as good as speaking to the phone. I’ve quit trying to use it. I’m a big fan of Siri when I can have my attention on the phone, but it was my search for a headset solution that led me to this page. Ironic that the second suggestion I see is the very one that won’t work for me!

I’ve never used a Bluetooth headset, but am hoping it will help me make better use of Siri. Can you tell me which model Jawbone Icon you are using? I looked the Icon up on Amazon, and there are several different models. Thanks –

I’m sorry to hear about your issues with the Icon. I tried duplicating this with my headset, but did not have this problem. However, I have the latest software updates loaded on mine. Have you tried using Jawbone’s setup website, MyTalk? If not, here is the link:

http://mytalk.jawbone.com

If you haven’t used it before, you will need to create an account first. Then, after you connect your headset, MyTalk will prompt you to download a piece of software that the website uses to connect to the Icon via the USB cable. Once the website can recognize it, it will tell you if there are any updates for your headset. Loading the latest software should fix your problem. I actually updated mine before I paired it with my iPhone, so I am not sure how it operated with the original software.

If this doesn’t work, it may time for a call to Jawbone, but feel free to let me know if you have any more trouble, as well. Good luck, and I hope this makes Siri an even better experience for you.

I also have a Jawbone Icon. The problem I have is during conversations with Siri, sometimes it won’t recognize my responses. That is, if it asks me for confirmation or clarification, it does not always register my answer through the headset. I have to turn the Icon off and talk directly into the iPhone for it to hear me.

Thanks for reading, Shilo, and especially for the handsfree recommendation.

I also have an iPhone 4S and last weekend installed the Belkin Bluetooth Car Handsfree Kit (Amazon, about $70). So far I’m loving it. Works well with Siri, and uses the car stereo for the music on my iPhone. It requires an AUX input for your car stereo but if your car has one, installation is a no-brainer. Microphone/Activation button attaches to the dash; power comes from a cigarette lighter plug (into which you can plug your phone charging USB cable if you wish)…it’s exactly what I had been looking for to take advantage of the music on my phone without having to use an earpiece. Don’t know if I’m allowed to post the Amazon link, but I’ll try: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Blackberry-Smartphones/dp/B004CLYJ2I/ref=pd_sim_cps_1
