Another week and yet more rumors regarding the next-generation iPad’s display. First up is a report from DailySearch analyst Richard Shim, who claims that Apple has indeed started production of the higher-resolution 2048×1536 “Retina” display.
This report carries some weight considering that DisplaySearch is a research firm solely focused on display supply chains and related industries. This report also lines up nicely with a recent report by DigiTimes who also cited Samsung, Sharp, and LG as suppliers for the new display.
In a second report, Peter Misek a Jeffries analyst claims that Apple will not be including IPS technology on the next-generation iPad. He also claims that Apple has invested anywhere from $500 million to $1 billion in new equipment so Sharp can produce new displays that utilize a new technology that allows for a new, thinner, low-power design.
It seems pretty certain at this early date that the next-generation iPad will indeed be equipped with a high-resolution 2048×1536 display. There are too many rumors in the supply chain for it to be unlikely.
