NFC-Capable iPhone Coming in 2012

NFC-N-Mark-Logo.pngRunning up to the introduction of the iPhone 4S there were rumors that Apple would include near field communication technology in the then-forthcoming device. This obviously did not happen, but a new report from DigiTimes claims that the technology will be included in new hardware in 2012.

Apparently Apple entering the NFC market would cause this technology to reach critical mass. In fact, they expect the adoption to increase from 10% to 50% in the span of a few years.

On the other hand, NFC has seen some standardization issues, but 45 carriers, including AT&T and Verizon, have tied it to the SIM card to the standard making adoption easier.

Again, there have been reports that NFC is coming to the iPhone. In fact, the Wall Street Journal reported that it is on it’s way, they just didn’t specify when it will happen. So there’s that.
