I’ve owned every iPhone, from the original in 2007 through to the latest iPhone 4S. I can honestly say that I have very, very rarely had any major issues with the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, the 3GS, or the iPhone 4. Once in a while a headache, nearly always related to my own jailbreaking efforts, and ever anything that wasn’t relatively easy to resolve.
Sadly, my experience with the iPhone 4S so far is nowhere near as smooth and problem-free as with all my previous iPhones. Apart from having ridiculously bad battery life, the iPhone 4S has some recurring ‘behavioral’ issues that are making it a very unreliable smartphone at the moment. Here are some examples of this:
— That lovely screencap above is the Settings app on my 4S, when I was trying recently to adjust its WiFi settings. As you can see it’s just a completely blank screen. One I’ve seen relatively often lately when trying to use Settings.
— The reason I needed to look at Settings is that the 4S is no longer smoothly and automatically connecting to my home WiFi network.
— Worst of all though is the iPhone 4S’ performance as an actual phone. More and more frequently this is what happens when I attempt to make a call:
The Phone app screen says that it is Calling but it actually isn’t and it just sits there silent for a long while. So I hit the ‘End’ button so that I can try the call again. Then the Phone app sits there for an eternity saying that it is ending the call – but it never does. I can switch away from the app, watch minutes tick by, and still see the green strip at the top of the screen prompting me to return to a call that never dialed anywhere and that I ended 3 minutes ago. Even when I quit the Phone app via the Multitasking Bar and relaunch it, the non-call never ends.
The only way past this I have found is to hard reboot the iPhone. Oh, and did I mention that usually when the never-ending call issue arises, the iPhone 4S also goes mute (no sounds work) and will not pull up the prompt to slide to power off when I press and hold the Power button – leaving a hard reboot as the only option.
I’ve reset all settings on the iPhone 4S and done a restore on it today, and I’ll see how things go with it over the next few days. But I have a strong feeling that I’ll soon be visiting the Apple store and asking for an exchange.
Have any of you been seeing any similar issues with never ending failed calls on the iPhone 4S?
