I have the non ending failed call issue, exactly as described. Only a hard reset stops it, and sometimes it comes back alone, but takes a couple of minutes. I think it’s a matter of the antenas handling the call among them.
Now I have the problem that all call have mutted the microfone so nobody can hearme. When it first appeared I solve it with a hard reset. Since two last days it has been impossible. I’m planning to change to Samsung.

I am very concerned as the same issue happened again this morning. I have had the 4s for over a month now so i would think that this should be a sw issue. I too am doing a full wipe and restore to see if this remedies the situation.

In addition, i have had major issues w/ syncing itunes songs on the iphone. I agree, as an iphone owner from inception, these are by far the worst issues i’ve had to deal with (attributable solely to Apple that is) and i am becoming concerned that i may have to return this device…

I do have a strange settings issue though. Whenever I go to Settings-General-Usage it shows me the screen for a couple of seconds then goes back to home screen. Everything else has been great though and I haven’t had the time to take it in to get looked at.

The calls were always connected, rarely rarely dropped, everyone could hear and speak with clarity. I jumped on the IPhone 4. It took me six different phones until Apple agreed to give me a new phone instead of a refurb. This phone has now worked well for months. I even did a jailbreak which gave me the functionality I desire. I was contemplating installing IOS 5, but after all the various issues I have read, I have decided to stick with what I know works well. The phone part is not as good as the 3GS, but very acceptable. I don’t know how long not upgrading the operating system will last, meaning compatibility with all the aps etc, but I will hold off as long as I can or until I believe Apple has righted the ship that now seems off course.

I’ve returned mine for much less issues that what you’ve described – wouldn’t have put up with that for that long 🙂

I also disabled push notifications on several unnecessary apps, like games. It has been much improved since then.

I should also mention that my battery lIfe was just as hit and miss with my iPhone 4, so I’m pretty sure it’s more of an iOS 5 software issue than an iPhone 4S problem.

As for your other problems, Patrick, it does sound like you got a bad apple. Sorry. Couldn’t help myself.

It dials (whether from my recent list or from contacts) and it appears it is making the call but I do not hear it dialing or ringing and the receiving person gets the call but cannot hear me (because I don’t know if the call is made). It is very frustrating on both sides. I hope Apple comes up with a fix for this!!
This is my first iPhone and I loved it at first but now….???

I had to return mine due to the battery life and camera rattle issue.
http://www.google.com/search?q=iphone+4s+camera+rattle

People have accepted the rattle as a feature. I was contemplating on keeping the phone and living with the problems and/wait for a fix. Then I thought, what would Steve Jobs do..he’d return this piece of junk and wait till they fixed it ..
And that’s what I did 🙂

If I were you, I’d wait regardless. I had the 3GS and was going to wait, but I dropped my phone and forced myself to upgrade. This is a huge upgrade from the 3GS, but still wanting more in what the 5 will have, both cosmetically and feature-wise.

Anyways, I don’t have these issues with the settings menu. I have had a couple times where I press the home button and it just sits there, nothing shows up. The battery issue hasn’t been a problem. I have some days where it’s just AMAZING battery life and the next it seems to drain a bit faster than I’d expect. But nothing too noticeable.

Been mulling over buying one in a bit. If they don’t get the battery issues sorted out, I might wait for the 5.

Some days its stellar, other days it drains like toddler’s nose with a cold. That leads me to believe this is something they can fix in software.

As for the other problems you listed (knock on wood) I haven’t seen any of them. Hopefully the restore helps, otherwise definitely take it in and have them replace the hardware. Those issues could be bad memory chips.

Never had it with my iPhone 3G…
