Gelaskins usually cost around $15 to cover your device in awesome M3 powered sticker goodness, but it turns out there’s a way to enjoy their awesome artwork without paying a cent. The free universal wallpaper app available on the App Store is actually meant to compliment the skins you buy, but there’s really nothing stopping you from picking up simply downloading it…sans gel and skin.
The Gelaskins app is more than just a simple catalogue of images that fit the iPhone and iPad — it’s actually a surprisingly good wallpaper manager. Images and artists are all searchable so you can home in on the designs you already know you like, and the app also features a nifty little slider for each image. The slider can be used to brighten or dim an image to your liking before saving it to your camera roll, and in a great extra touch, the Gelaskins app will even superimpose home screen icons over the image while you adjust it. That way you can make sure that icon legibility isn’t sacrificed for a pretty background. Nice touch.
