In reply to redsport. If you double tap the home button on the lock screen it goes straight to the camera, and if you tap it again it goes back to the lock screen, so that exists now. :) Good thinking though!

The iPhone needs a button to quickly lock/unlock screen rotation. At times I’ll set my iPhone down on a table while I’m reading an email or article because I need both hands free, and quite often the screen will mistakenly rotate or flip. It would be nice to have a single button I could toggle to lock the screen in a particular alignment.

I would love an *Update All* button. Instead of constantly seeing the {2} or {5} or {13} (app lovers like me 😉 badge on the App Store icon, why not a single button that gets everything up to date?!

This would update all apps, iOS delta updates (if available), grabs mail and calendar events from all (non-push enabled) accounts, fetch current Newstand issues, etc…

One press, and you’re current. Perfect for commuters who may be offline for their commute.

A button that magically appears when the new iPhone is released. You click the button on your old iPhone and you are the first person in line at the Apple store to purchase the new iPhone. No waiting in lines anymore!

I would want an “activate camera button”. Even though the camera app loads up quickly, there are so many times where I miss great moments because I have to slide to unlock, type in my pin and find my camera button. It would be great if there was a button that could bypass the unlock screen and only allow access to the camera. When the home button is hit, it would go back to the lock screen. That way there is super quick access to the camera, and no foul play can be done by someone who might have stolen your phone. Of course, if you have already unlocked your phone, it won’t bring you back to the lock screen.

You are in a meeting, lecture hall, auditorium and “Ring, Ring, Ring….”. You forgot to silence your phone.

Hit the button on the side, iphone is immediately quiet and a message is given to the caller that lets them know you are busy and will return their call soon. You can customize the “I am busy” message.

We’ve all lost TV remotes…why get up to change the channel or dig through the sofa cushions yet again, when the AUX button (aka iMote/iRemote) can quickly change over your phone to control your TV, stereo, Blu-Ray, or iPod? Apple TVs are clearly on the horizon and this would segway nice into this new product category and facilitate the remote integration of our other media devices. The button would also allow us to type remotely to our iPad, iMacs, etc using an iPhone, thus causing more customers to change channels to Apple.

I would love to see a button that would open a random program from a set, like if you want to play a game but don’t want to choose it would randomize it for you and surprise there’s your game.

I would like to see a button that you can customize that way you could have it launch Siri, the camera, a flashlight app, text app, etc. your choice of functions could be controlled by the button.

I would add a push-to-talk button. And it wouldn’t require carriers to support push-to-talk; like iMessage, you could PTT to anybody else with an iPhone. This functionality is really handy for a lot of people, and is an unfortunate casualty of industry strife. I’ve heard that carriers are actually working on bringing it back. But like I said, this PTT could be Apple-specific until/if the carriers do support it.

I would make a quick command button bellow the volume buttons. It would have full customization for as many commands as you can remember. These commands could do any pre setup button press combonation. For example: single press- siri, double press- call mom, tripple press- send text to laura ” im on my way”, one second hold- brings up facebook, one press then a one second hold- brings up isourse.com in web browser of you choice, double press while there is an incoming call- decline call and send text “ill call you back” to the person calling. Single press while in facebook- refresh news feed.
The posibilities are endless. It would be a great tool for when you are short on time or cant answer the phone or are just feeling lazy.

I would add a button that glows red, green, or blue depending on the battery level. The button would also serve as anything you want, so you can change its function int the Settings app(similar to Activator).

One thing I’ve missed for a while is the double tap the home button function that would pull up your favorite contacts. While we now have Siri, the double tap can just be faster. Double tap, then tap. As it stands now because of multi-tasking/fast app switching – if you’re not in your favorite list, it adds more time trying to navigate to where you want to go. I would add a button specifically for this.

We already have a button for snapping pictures, multi-tasking, and Siri. This function does not exist on the current gen iPhone and I miss it dearly. Even if the button was assignable, I would use it for quick access to my favorite contacts.

I would have the button PLAY. It would then ask play what? video/music/voicemail.etc It would save time looking for the app icons.

I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE for my iPhone to have a camera button.. using the (+) button isn’t the same as having a button dedicated to the camera. My droid (which doesn’t hold a candle to the iPhone) had this button which allowed me to access my camera any time and take photos without confusion! I take pictures ALL the time and would use that button until it fell off! 🙂

One that can have the function be assigned by the user. Want it to pull up Siri directly? Assign it!
Shazam a lot? Assign it for that.

I’d put a button specifically for Siri. It is the handiest app. I think Apple realizes how much of a pain it is to type on a small screen. Pulling up Siri at anytime to help with filling in forms, writing emails and texts, etc. would be awesome.
