Proving that it is the end of the year and even the rumor mill is out of ideas, BGR is reporting that Apple is planning to introduce a redesigned iPhone in the fall of 2012. This of course suggests that the iPhone 4S’ fall release wasn’t a fluke, but rather the new timeframe in which Apple will be releasing iPhone hardware. Gone are the days of summer releases.
The report goes on to glom other rumors together claiming that the next iPhone will have an aluminum backing, and the sides and bezel will be shot in rubber, similar to Apple’s current bumper cases, to protect the antennas.
To me, this report seems to play to the (perceived) desires of the public. In the abstract, the public is bitching about the glass front and back of the current iPhones. This report fixes that will aluminum. The public was supposedly very disappointed that the iPhone 4S was not a complete redesign. This report addresses that. Those pesky antenna issues that were never really an issue- This report addresses those concerns with rubber. In other words, to me, it seems BGR is telling the public what they want to hear to shore up page views before the end of the year.
I can’t wait to eat crow when it turns out they were right.
