Macotakra is reporting that Foxconn and Pegatron, Apple’s production partners, have begun production of the next-generation iPad, while Apple is aiming for an early March launch. Foxconn, as with years past, will be handling 85% of the production load.
This report goes on to echo previous claims that this new iPad model will look largely the same as the iPad 2, while being only marginally thicker. This means that cases that are particularly snug fitting on the iPad 2 will not work on the new iPad. However, the report notes that Smart Covers will continue to work on the new model, even though Apple is slightly adjusting the location of the magnets.
Macotakra has an on and off track record when it comes to guessing Apple’s next move. However, everything in this report sounds reasonable to me. I’m still hesitant to say that the next-generation iPad will be thicker, but I do expect the product to launch in March, and for it look mostly the same as the iPad 2.
