I got an e-mail from Capcom this morning informing me that Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is now out as a free download on the App Store. The title is actually a port of the excellent Nintendo DS puzzle-adventure game of the same name, so the touch mechanics should transfer over quite nicely to the buttonless iPhone and iPad. The premise is terribly mysterious and I don’t really want to spoil much, but a lot of the game boils down to switching between the ghost world (where you can manipulate things) and the physical world (where things actually happen). There’s also a wee bit of time traveling thrown in there for good measure, but the first two chapters will cover all of that nicely.
The two aforementioned chapters come free with the game, and if you end up liking the sample, you can purchase the rest of it as $10 DLC. I’ve actually played a significant portion of Ghost Trick on the DS already, so I’m quite comfortable with recommending the purchase. The humour is quirky, the animations smooth, and the storyline has a habit of making all sorts of ridiculous twists. Ghost Trick is well worth a download if you’ve been looking for a game to keep you entertained for a few hours.
